Gear Up Girl fundraising

Any UNSW women out there who’d like to help fundraise for the Oncology Children’s Foundation, a team “UNSW Girls On The Go” has been organised and is raising money fast! It’s part of the Gear Up Girl program.

Click here to get more info, and join the team.

Workshops start Tuesday week 1

Our popular weekly maintenance workshops, where you can bring your bike along and learn how to fix it (using our tools and the expertise of our volunteers), start in week 1.

The first workshop will be on Tuesday 2 March, and they’ll run every week from 12pm-2pm.

They’ll be on the raised stage on the Quadrangle Lawn, at the base of the Basser steps.

If you know about fixing bikes and would like to help out, come along too!

Count bikes on Super Tuesday

For a few years now, Bicycle Victoria (in association with local councils) has been running a count of cyclists on Super Tuesday. This year it will be held on Tuesday 2 March.

If you participate, you’ll give local councils a better idea of how many cyclists are using the roads, giving them more good reasons to invest in cycling infrastructure and programs.

You’re also able to nominate a $50 donation from Bicycle Victoria to a local cycling club (like the UNSW Bike Club!).

O-Week is coming: volunteer on our stall!

O-Week, the Bike Club’s chance to make itself known to UNSW students, is fast approaching. It will run from Monday 22nd – Friday 26th February.

Our stall will be on the Quadrangle Lawn, stall #97.

So far the bike club has planned:

  • a stall from 10am-4pm every day, where we’ll be giving out info about riding to UNSW, and also selling lights and patch kits (and also some bikes!);
  • a Bike Repair Workshop, to be held Wednesday 12pm-2pm on the Quadrangle, at the base of the Basser steps;
  • a Bike Ride and Picnic, from UNSW to Milson’s Point, on Friday (leaving UNSW Anzac Pde gatesĀ at 6pm).

We need volunteers for our O-Week stall, so we can share our love of bikes with new students. Do you have some free time during O-Week? We’ll be handing out maps, suggesting routes to new commuters, selling safety accessories, and helping people fix their bikes.

There are two volunteer shifts each day: 10am-1pm and 1pm-4pm. Email bike-email to sign up for one. We need your help so the Bike Club can have another great year! The roster so far is:

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday
10am-1pm Jacqui Devin, Lucinda
1pm-4pm Jason Sarita Katie
