Want to get involved in the Bike Club? Come along to our AGM, followed by pizza and drinks! There are heaps of ways you can help other people love bikes as much as we do.

Day: Tuesday 23 March
Time: 5pm – 6pm, followed by pizza and drinks
Where: Marsh Room, on level 1 of the Roundhouse (access via the stairs inside the Roundhouse)

What happens at our AGM? We elect new organisers for the year, and talk about ideas people have for exciting new bike projects. Here’s our formal agenda:

1. Confirm minutes of 2009 AGM
2. Report presented by trustees
3. Financial report presented
4. Changes to constitution/organising structure proposed/adopted
5. Election of 2010 organisers
6. Discussion of priorities for this year
7. Pizza and drinks!

I’ve been thinking about how we could structure our organising for 2010, and I’d like to propose the following six roles:

Advocacy

Arc Delegate & Secretary

Bike loans

Finances & Shop (“Treasurer”)

Events & Publicity

Workshops & Tutorials (“President”)

Have a think about whether you might like to help organise the bike club this year. It’s fun, rewarding, and you get to meet heaps of keen cyclists at UNSW, while helping the club that helps you. If you have any questions, send us an email.

Ever been in a situation where you were unsure where you should be on the road, what was the best way to take the corner or just had a few wobbles as you rode along? This series of cycling courses may be what you need to make your life that little bit easier and to give you the confidence to get out on your bike more often.

We are offering a series of free cycling courses to staff and students of UNSW. These courses will be run by a Austcycle certified cycling teacher and will prepare you for riding on Sydney’s roads. We will be meeting at Centennial Park and I would be happy to arrange to ride with people to get there from UNSW or the surrounding suburbs if needed.

Dates: Thursday 11th March, 18th March & 25th March 2010

Time: 4pm-6pm (try to arrive by 3.45 if possible)

To book a place contact: Jacqui Hicks by phone 0404 176981, or by email jacquelinehicks@gmail.com

Places are limited so get in quick

O-Week, the Bike Club’s chance to make itself known to UNSW students, is fast approaching. It will run from Monday 22nd – Friday 26th February.

Our stall will be on the Quadrangle Lawn, stall #97.

So far the bike club has planned:

a stall from 10am-4pm every day, where we’ll be giving out info about riding to UNSW, and also selling lights and patch kits (and also some bikes!);

a Bike Repair Workshop, to be held Wednesday 12pm-2pm on the Quadrangle, at the base of the Basser steps;

a Bike Ride and Picnic, from UNSW to Milson’s Point, on Friday (leaving UNSW Anzac Pde gates at 6pm).

We need volunteers for our O-Week stall, so we can share our love of bikes with new students. Do you have some free time during O-Week? We’ll be handing out maps, suggesting routes to new commuters, selling safety accessories, and helping people fix their bikes.

There are two volunteer shifts each day: 10am-1pm and 1pm-4pm. Email to sign up for one. We need your help so the Bike Club can have another great year! The roster so far is:

Monday

Tuesday

Wednesday

Thursday

10am-1pm

Devin, Lucinda

1pm-4pm
